About Mrs. Vanden Bos

Hi! I'm Denise Vanden Bos

I am a veteran science teacher, but new to teaching online. I hold several degrees.  My most recent academic accomplishment is a M. Ed. in Educational Leadership from George Fox University.  I have been a Science Department Lead for a large school district, an Assistant Principal, and a Dean of Students.  I have also served as a Teacher Mentor in several capacities.  In addition, I have written and edited State Science Assessment questions at multiple learning levels in two states. I am a published co-Author of the Poverty Toolkit for STEM Education sponsored by the Bill Gates Foundation.  In addition, I have co-authored Next Generation Science Standards at the state level.  My lesson plans for Biology, Middle School, and Elementary levels are published exemplars at the National Level for NSTA/NGSS teaching resources.

My teaching background includes Pre-K through college level.  In addition, I have taught in Autism settings and have training in dyslexia strategies, PBIS, Restorative Practices, and multiple literacy methods.

My husband and I have been together for over 30 years. Both of us have medical science backgrounds, and he works at the hospital as a Sonography Technologist. We love to hike, camp, and travel. I have been to 23 countries and over 40 states. I am a gamer, and love playing with my family even though some are 2,000 miles away. My parents were professional orchestra musicians, and I have always loved both classical and heavy metal 80s music. My oldest son is an Avionics Engineer with the Navy and just finished his first ten years. He is an amazing cook and the best Dad we could have for our grandkids. Our grandson is all about Minecraft and our granddaughter is excited to start preschool.  Our second son works in grocery and cooking.  He has an Intellectual Disability and Autism. Yet, he reads at a high school level.  He finds purpose and happiness in life, and I know that you can too.  Our third son is in his senior year majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He is a Presidential Leadership Fellow.  His favorite course is Make A Difference Engineering, which develops equipment for a local preschool specifically for children with disabilities.  He is an Eagle Scout and has mentored many scouts who have now obtained their Eagle. Our daughter is a Sophomore in High School with great aspirations to become a Biomedical Engineer.  She has been in ballet, Girl Scouts, Volleyball, Dance line, Band, and Choir.  She is open and honest, and has great empathy for others.

The first time I held my children, the first time I set eyes on my foster children: I loved them.  I love my students.  I am here to help you through your middle school years. Join class live, make appointments for help, and go to small group work sessions.
